The rubric and skills
What the standard rubric contains, how the 1 to 10 scale and age guidance work, and where staff and families read it.
For club admins, coaches
The rubric is the written description of every skill your coaches score. Because everyone scores against the same words, coaches, players and parents read a score the same way.

The standard rubric
The standard rubric has 19 skater skills and 15 netminder skills, written with UK junior coaches. It is the recommended choice in setup and every team can use it from day one.
- Each skill is scored from 1 to 10 in three bands: Developing (1 to 3), On target (4 to 7) and Strong (8 to 10).
- Each age band has a typical range for each skill, such as U12 · 4 to 7, so a score is read against age.
- Skills are grouped, and each has criteria described at all ten levels.
- A skill a coach has not seen enough of is never counted as a low score.
- When more than one coach scores a player, the scores are averaged.
Where to read it
Open Club, then The rubric. Open any skill to see its stage for each age band, the three band descriptions and every criterion at all ten levels. Staff also see Drills for this skill, and everyone sees Off the ice: exercises that build the skill.
Families and players see the same rubric as What the scores mean, in their menu (under More on a phone). Draft rubric changes waiting for sign-off are only shown to staff.
Your own rubric
If you choose We have our own rubric in setup, your academy's own skills and descriptions are set up with you. Until it is ready your teams use the standard rubric, and their scores carry over.
