Playing up, to the EIH Junior Playing Up Policy
How a coach proposes a player plays up, who has to agree, and what changes once they do.
For coaches, families, club admins
Playing up means a player joins an older team as well as their own, either one age group up or across a division in their own age group. Never down. RinkTracker follows the EIH Junior Playing Up Policy.

Proposing it
- On the player's page, find Playing up and press Propose. Head coaches, coaches, team managers and club admins can propose; assistant coaches and families can't.
- Choose Which team, and why: physically ahead, or technically and tactically ahead.
- Say what they'll gain, How you'll ease them in and Who you've talked it through with, and pick when to review it (six weeks out unless you choose a date).
- Press Send for agreement.
Who has to agree
- A head coach or club admin approves. A proposal from one of them counts as approved.
- The family answers We agree or Not for now from their own account, or a coach records They agreed in person.
- The safeguarding lead signs it off. If the club has no safeguarding lead in RinkTracker, this step is skipped.
Once it's agreed
- The player trains with the older team. Games stay at Training only for now until you record that EIH has approved; then they're invited to the older team's games.
- The older team's roster shows a playing up badge, and reports note it while still scoring against the player's own age group.
- Reviews come up on Home when they're due. The family can stop playing up at any time, and it doesn't carry over to next season.
