SEND support: telling the coaches what helps

If your child has special educational needs or a disability, share what helps at training and documents such as an EHC plan. Only their coaches, the head coaches and the welfare officer see it.

For families

If your child has special educational needs or a disability (SEND), a few lines from you can make training much easier for them. It's optional, and it's up to you what to share.

Add or update it

1. Open your child's page and press SEND support.
2. Fill in any of the five boxes. Leave out anything you'd rather not say.
3. The first time, tick the box that lets the club keep it and share it with your child's coaches, the head coaches and the welfare officer.
4. Press Save. The coaches can see it straight away.

• Their needs: a diagnosis if you'd like to share one, or simply what they find hard.
• What helps them at training: for example, being shown a drill rather than just told.
• What can upset or overwhelm them: for example, a whistle close by or a long queue.
• How best to talk to them: for example, one instruction at a time.
• Signs they're finding it hard, and what to do: what the coaches will notice, and what calms things down.

Documents

Once you've saved the form (it can be blank), you can add documents under Documents, such as an EHC plan or the school's support plan. Each can be a PDF, photo, Word or text file, up to 4 MB. Give it a title if you like, then press Add.

Who can see it

• You, and any other parent who can give consent for your child.
• The coaches and assistant coaches of your child's own teams.
• The club's head coaches and its welfare officer.

Team managers, club admins who don't coach, other parents and players can't see it, and nor can your child if they have their own login. Coaches can read it but can't change it. Every time a member of staff opens the full profile or a document, it's recorded in the club's audit log.

Changing your mind

You can change what you wrote, or remove a document, at any time. To take everything back, press Remove everything you've shared, then Delete it all. The profile and every document are deleted and the coaches won't see them any more. If the club erases your child's record, SEND support is deleted with it.
